FOR PUBLIC RELEASE
July 31, 2025

(Fairfax, VA, July 31, 2025) – A letter in support of George Mason University and university President Dr. Gregory Washington, signed by 3,309 supporters, was submitted today to the university’s Board of Visitors in advance of its scheduled meeting on Friday, August 1. The public letter, hosted at www.standwithmason.com, reflects strong support for Dr. Washington’s leadership and George Mason’s vital role in Virginia’s economy and future.

Supporters include business leaders, students, alumni, parents, staff, faculty, and community members from across the Commonwealth who recognize that George Mason is Virginia’s largest and most diverse public university and a driver of the state’s economic growth. The university contributes more than $3.5 billion annually to Northern Virginia’s economy through research, employment, business partnerships, and workforce development.

The Board of Visitors is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Friday, August 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Merten Hall, Hazel Conference Room (1201), on the university’s Fairfax Campus. The public show of support is intended to underscore the importance of allowing university leadership to focus on Mason’s mission: delivering affordable, high-quality education and fueling regional innovation – not navigating politically motivated interference.
